MRC eMedLab Partner

Wellcome Sanger Logo The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is an internationally renowned genomic research centre operating at the forefront of genomics, with research groups targeting a wide range of genomes from single cell pathogens to higher vertebrates and with an emphasis on those relevant to human medicine and welfare.

We have world-class computational resources and genomic analytical expertise, having led many large-scale human genomics projects such as the 1000 Genomes project, the UK10K project, and the Deciphering Developmental Disorders projects. We have recently reinvested in high throughput sequencing technology by expanding our core sequencing platform such that it now has the capacity to produce 20,000 high-coverage human whole genomes per year. Our on-going and planned major research programmes include large-scale genomic studies in Europe and Africa, and an ambitious new programme to integrate genomics and electronic health resources and databases in the UK. There are excellent opportunities for the fellow to engage actively with the human genetics research programme and informatics teams, with the computational genomics programme, and with informatics systems teams who maintain the core informatics infrastructure at the institute and who are involved in technical infrastructure of MRC eMedLab.
